TinT-FollowTaxes participated in a capacity building organized by Tax Justice & Governance Platform (TJ&GP), in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), organized a two-day capacity-building workshop on February 05–06, 2025, at Ihifix Kaduna Conference Hall to strengthen stakeholders’ advocacy for gender-responsive tax reforms. The event brought together 32 participants (20 male, 12 female) from CSOs, media, government agencies, and market associations, including LANW, CISLAC, KADIRS, FIDA, OGP, and representatives from Kano, Jigawa, and Kaduna Tax Justice Networks, to address gender gaps in taxation and promote inclusivity in Kaduna State.

The workshop focused on analyzing gender disparities in tax policies, equipping participants with advocacy skills, and fostering strategic partnerships for equitable tax reforms. Sessions included keynote speeches, group exercises, and action planning, where participants discussed cultural and systemic barriers to women’s tax compliance, the importance of transparency in tax administration, and the need for automated tax platforms. Three advocacy groups developed strategies to promote equitable representation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in taxation, simplify tax systems for informal businesses, and increase tax education for women with disabilities.

Key recommendations included employing more female tax officers, simplifying tax processes, establishing grievance redress mechanisms, and promoting gender-disaggregated data collection for policy formulation. The workshop emphasized collaboration between CSOs, government agencies, and community leaders to ensure inclusive tax policies. Next steps include follow-up training, radio sensitization programs, social media campaigns, and stakeholder engagements to institutionalize gender-responsive taxation. The workshop reinforced the importance of gender equity in taxation for economic empowerment, highlighting the need to address systemic barriers and promote inclusivity in Kaduna State.
