Transparency and Accountability in Totality Initiative

cropped-ft-3

At FollowTaxes, an initiative of Transparency Center Africa, we focus on using technology to enhance tax knowledge as a weapon against bribery and corruption. We train entrepreneurs in basic financial literacy, record keeping, and taxation. We also provide tax consultancy services to start-up businesses that cannot afford a tax consultant. Additionally, we track the taxes collected by governments to encourage civic engagement and empower citizens to hold elected representatives accountable for how tax revenues are used.

Shin Kun Sheda? (Did you Testify?)

is an empowering initiative under FollowTaxes, designed to foster financial literacy, promote tax education, and advocate for transparent and accountable governance in local communities, particularly among Hausa-speaking individuals. The initiative creates a platform for people to share their stories of interacting with government services, inspiring others to take control of their finances and demand better service delivery. Through vlogs, podcasts, and translations of government documents into Hausa, Shin Kun Sheda? ensures that vital information about taxes, budgets, and public procurement is accessible to a wider audience. Key projects include the “Tax and Budget Literacy for All” program, which offers free education on government financial matters, and the “Hausa Translation Initiative,” making government activities comprehensible for millions of Hausa speakers. With over 5,000,000 people reached and more than 100 testimonies shared, Shin Kun Sheda? has played a significant role in increasing transparency and improving public services in sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture. Individuals can get involved by sharing their stories, volunteering, or attending events to further the cause of community empowerment and government accountability.
